Good mail!

Since I've been on Ravelry, my very wonderful friends on the VLT (Very Longest Thread) have sent me all sorts of lovely surprises. I thought I'd show some recent ones.

First, Emmms in London sent me some lovely packages, and one of them contained these beautiful fingerless mitts. They're so wonderfully warm and soft, and I love them! Of course, since it's me, I have to have a ridiculous story to go along with the pictures.

In this case, the story begins with me outside trying to get a good picture. I got this good one of my left hand, but my right hand looked better at the time (I know how silly this is!) so I was trying to get a picture of the right hand. The problem is that the camera is right-handed and so am I. After several failed attempts, it suddenly occurred to me that if I turned the camera around the other way, I could reach the button with my left hand. You see where this is going, right? Yep, I snapped a picture of my own face, with a perfectly lovely look of intense concentration on it. Unfortunately, I deleted it before I thought of blogging about it. Next time I do something really dumb, I'll try to think of you, my readers, first!

Here are some goodies from Heather in Ohio. She makes the very best cookies you've ever eaten, and her cupcakes...well, there are no words! She's on a mission to put meat on the bones of the world. And possibly to make the world laugh with silly flamingo frames. I am happy to report that I didn't manage to photograph my face while taking this picture.

Mittens!

Timothy developed a sudden yearning for yellow mittens last month. I don't know what caused this yearning, but yellow mittens were not available at any of the stores I checked. So I decided it was time to try knitting mittens. They were way easier than I thought they'd be!

He was absolutely thrilled with the result! Unfortunately, the third time he wore them out, we lost one. I do have extra yarn, so I'll be making another mitten soon. And this time, I'll be fashioning a cord to keep them together!

Growing pains...

The laptop fan choked to death on a hairball (again) and as a result, I'm once again behind on blogging. But this story was way too funny not to share, so here it is.

Gabe was off school last Friday for a teacher work day. So when I left on Friday morning to take Timothy to school and go to work, I had both kids and was rushing to get out the door on time. As I got ready, I was quizzing Gabe to make sure all his chores had been done. I asked him if he fed the strays. Yep. I asked if he'd turned the light on in his aquarium. Yep. I asked if he'd turned off the lava lamp in his room. He replied, "Oh, I don't sleep with that on anymore!" This surprised me, since he's slept with it on for a long time. "Is the light bulb blown out?" I asked. "No," he replied, "but I heard on 740 KRMG that if you sleep with a bright light on in your room, you're more likely to lose your hair."

At this point, I burst out laughing. I couldn't help it. This annoyed my eldest child very much. "MAMA, THIS IS SERIOUS!! I don't want to be BALD!!!" he shouted. I can't say that I completely stopped laughing, but I tried really, really hard! Nine years old and already worried about male pattern baldness!

Bliss...

He really has a hard life, doesn't he?
